don't you judge me

I need help. I need to clean my oven and I don't really know how.

(please read the title of this post and insert it here...)

It's not that I've never cleaned my oven. (I have... a couple of times...) It's just that I've never had good results when I did.

Now I need results. I don't want to spray the inside with nasty chemicals that are expensive and smell like they will kill you. I am not afraid of a little elbow grease. I just don't want to use an entire Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, and still feel like I have a ton of stuff still stuck.

I've thought about just getting rid of the oven, and buying one that self cleans... but that is cost prohibitive, as well as wasteful. I am not actually that lazy.

I open it to any and all suggestions! Comment on please!

I would never judge you...especially considering I have no advice to give. Not only do I not know how to clean my oven, I've never done it. But considering I probably haven't cooked enough in three years to warrant a cleaning...well, again with the not judging.

I have moved every time I felt my oven might need to be cleaned. I don't know how to clean an oven without nasty chemicals or a self-cleaning feature. I don't judge you, a bit.

Maureen...hire someone to do it for you...that's how I would clean an oven.

I'm with Bridget if you're against the chemicals. I HATE cleaning the oven (still haven't done it since we moved in to this house... and I do bake a lot! No judging here!), but when I do, I use the chemical stuff. I've tried to get rid of all the harsh chemical cleaners in our house, but that's one that's kind of worth it... you just spray, shut the oven, turn on the fan, let it sit, put on some big yellow gloves, and with little scrubbing it's gone. Good luck...

I have never cleaned an oven, but it's going to be time soon. I was pregnant when we moved out of our apt and into our house. My dear dad cleaned both ovens for me (with the harsh chemical stuff). We've lived in the house for 6.5 years now and sometimes the crap in the bottom of the oven sets of smoke alarms. I know it's time to clean the oven. Maybe I can just get pregnant again and my dad will do it?
