Clarification

Did I mention I was crabby yesterday?

That may explain my glass half empty tone when describing Madeline's state as an almost two year old. My mother so nicely pointed out that I do have a very sweet and loving little two year old too. My comments in the previous post were not meant to be focused on the negative... but see the first line of this post and you will get why it was written that way.

This is the girl I normally have.

Happy, happy, happy! In this photo she is Happy and she knows it so she's clapping her hands... get it?

I am planning a larger post for her second birthday, but I thought I would give you some of the more positive attributes of Madeline today to make up for my unintentional negativity yesterday.

  • Madeline's favorite book right now is a book my Anita Jeram titled Bunny My Honey. Recently when we get to the end of the book she says, "Momma, me love you too". It melts my heart.
  • Madeline is constantly demanding that everybody clap. She will sing a song or play the piano and then say, "Everybody clap" and will call out anyone who isn't obeying. (ie. Momma, clap!) Two nights ago at dinner she did something that she thought was particularly funny (and I can't even remember what that was...) and she said in the same matter of fact way... "Everybody laugh!" Kevin and I cracked up.
  • If she wants to go upstairs, or to the car, or outside or just about anywhere she will call to the adult around and say, "Come on, come on!" As if to say, let's get going! She has even added "quickly, quickly!" a couple of times. It is ridiculously cute.
  • When she plays the piano at my parents house she kicks her feet as fast as she can while she plays. Then she belts out "THAT'S ELMO'S WORLD!" followed by, "everybody clap!"
I think that is enough for now... but I know she is an adorable 2 year old... so I will try again to be more glass 1/2 full...

Is that better Mom?

Nope, not us.

Madeline and I were both ridiculously crabby today. (Just ask Kevin.) Maybe it's the weather. I miss the sunshine and it has only been two days without it... argh. I am declaring tomorrow a better day.

We are less than one week away from Madeline's second birthday. I can't believe it. Not one little bit. We have a two year old? Nope, not us. We JUST came home from the hospital with a teeny little thing right? We don't have a screaming, tantrum throwing, walking, talking, two year old. Nope, not us.

yard work

Madeline helped her daddy with the yard work last week. She marked the trash can with sidewalk chalk so we'd know it was ours. I think it says, 'hear ye, hear ye. This olde yard waste used to belong to my daddy. Please remove but leave the can for further yard wastage!'

I'm in kinda a goofy mood. Can you tell?

ps. you have to click on the photo to make it bigger and look at how totally scrumptious those cheeks are.... I mean really!

ick

We all have colds. All three of us. Not a one to take care of the rest. I hate being sick. On top of it all I have hurt my back again. (No, I don't know how.)

I am glad Monday is over. Here's to Tuesday being a much better day.

The Tour

Olive here. Ready to give you the tour of our new digs. These photos were taken before our big move in day, so there is very little furniture, but it is about the house this time... decor later...

This is the family room. It is about the size of our former house. Just kidding....

Facing the front of the house.

Facing the rear of the house. (I love those doors and so does Maddy.) there is a full bath to the right there... but no photo sorry.

The view from the family room into the kitchen.

From the kitchen into the dinning room.

From the dining room to the front door.

Our awesome kitchen.

50% of the reason Kev and Mo bought this house.

Make that 60%.

From the kitchen into the master bed room.

This is a horrible photo of the master. You get the idea right?

The hallway to the master bathroom (on left) and closet (on right).

The closet. You see Maureen's clothes hung up... and that is all of them. They filled two closets at the old house. Now she feels like she needs to do some serious shopping.

The master shower with spa tub.

Back to the front of the house the steps are the first thing inside the front door.

The upstairs bathroom.

There are only two rooms in the house that were painted before moving in. Maureen and Kevin's room, before:

And After:
Madeline's room before:

And after:

This is the third and smallest bedroom upstairs. Madeline has declared it "Olive's room" As you see I won't complain.

The hallway upstairs is pretty big. The former owners used it as a tv/computer area for their kids.

Finally, the office. The stripes have stayed for now...

I hope you have enjoyed this tour of our new house. Maybe someday, when it isn't raining, I will convice Maureen to take a photo of the OUTSIDE of the house...

Love, Olive

Happy Birthday

Madeline is a little obsessed with birthdays. She sings Happy Birthday all day long. She wraps anything she can find in napkins or blankets and proclaims them, 'happy birthday presents.' My favorite so far, a piece of chewed up chicken she decided she "no yike it" so she wrapped it up and handed it to me. Thanks sweet baby.

Last night at dinner she handed me a wad of ham and said:

"Happy Birthday. I make you a sam-itch*."

Kevin and I fell out laughing and I proclaimed that the best reason to have children ever. They never stop making you laugh.

My birthday may have been 6 months ago, but I think that is still the best present.

*That is sandwich for those of you who don't speak 23 months.

Two (2) photos

The title of this blog is to let you know that you shouldn't get too excited. I downloaded photos from the past three weeks today but I am stingy so don't get your hopes up. In all honesty I want to do a bigger post with more photos, but my eyelids are heavy and I need sleep. So that will have to wait. It will be soon. Until then I leave you with the two promised photos: a girl and her room.

Madeline, eating a yummy lunch in the dining room. Why yes, that is a living room chair in our dining room. How smart of you to notice. It is there, along with the couch, because the room is so frigin' huge it looks silly with just a table. This might be my favorite room in the house right now... only because it holds the least amount of unpacked boxes. (Thank you Kathy!)

Madeline's purple room before we moved her furniture in. I am in love with Madeline's room. It is the exact shade of purple I imagine I would have wanted as a child, had I had any interest in interior decorating. (Instead I had a 14" x 24" painting of Jesus over my desk and a old sheet as a door to both my room and my closet and crayon drawings on the walls. And I was very, very happy with it.)

I'm tired

But I want to post for the THIRD day in a row!

Today Madeline and I mailed taxes, went resale shopping and bought milk.

Then we ate, napped and went to the park.

It was a good day... even though I didn't unpack a single box.

Photos soon... if you're lucky.

Anyone else bothered by my header? (Well I guess you are now huh?)

Big day

Today was a big day.

Madeline and I got up at 7:45am.

(30 min later than her current normal)

We ate hard boiled eggs, strawberries, and toast for breakfast.

We read Are You My Mother? no less than 25 times.

Now for the big one:
I unpacked ONE WHOLE BOX! (This is quite the accomplishment. Isn't that sad?)

Then we had mac and cheese and yogurt for lunch.

I unloaded the dishwasher.

I reloaded the dishwasher.

I made a million phone calls. (ok, more like 4.)

We napped.

We watched Old School Sesame Street.

I unloaded the dishwasher AGAIN! (I know, twice in one day... I rock.)

Then I cooked a real dinner. Ham, pasta and broccoli. Yumm-o!

And now I am blogging for the second day in a row.

I never left the house, but today was a big day.

I still haven't...

mailed the taxes. (which are done thanks to my hubby.)

taken a shower. (Don't you judge me!)

finished the laundry.

caught up with e-mails or blogs.

done any of my grading for tomorrow nights class.

But that is what tomorrow is for, right?

Behind

I am a bit behind. In everything.

I am nowhere close to being unpacked.
Dirty dishes are sitting on my counter.
Clean dishes are in my dishwasher.
Laundry is in various states of clean, dirty, folded and not.
School work has yet to be done.
I didn't shower today.
My bed isn't made.
The family room floor is covered in toys for the __th straight day.

Finally,

This blog is not yet updated.

Today is the first day with internet at the new house. So this week I will post photos and begin getting back to "normal." (Is there such a thing?)

Life is good. Be patient.
