A new post

I have tried to post on two separate occasions today. It was not technical difficulties that have thwarted my efforts, but first a sleeping baby who decided to wake up and second a post that was way to complicated and made me loose patience.

So instead I am posting one photo and this simple update. Maddy is doing well. She is three weeks and three days old and is changing each and every day. At this point her changes are huge. Anything other than eating and sleeping seems like a major milestone. One thing is for sure. She sure is a cutie, and she has most definitely captured our hearts.

Madeline, deep in thought.

A Bathing Beauty

What an exciting two weeks and two days it has been. Madeline has changed so much in that time. She is getting bigger and stronger every day. At her appointment with Dr. Marty she was a whopping 7 lb. 13 oz! She still isn't giving mom and dad a whole lot of sleep at night, but even a solid two hour stretch is a good thing at this point. (Isn't that sad...)

The photo above is from her first sponge bath. Of course she loved being laid out on the counter... but once the water started she wasn't quite so fond. Once she was warm and snuggly again she was a very happy and baby smelling little angel once again.

Now that her pesky little cord stub has fallen off we are going to have to try a full on bath. I think she might enjoy that a little more than just being wiped down and cold... I know I would.

Happy Mothers Day!

So this post may be a little late, but I am finding that you do what you can when you can. Madeline has her own schedule and I am sure not going to change that if she has anything to say about it! Our first mother's day was a good one. We hung out at home and Auntie Olivia came in to visit. Then Grandma Molly and Grandpa Gene came over with Uncle Elliot and Aunt Kathy to plant some flowers in the garden. (They Rock!) Finally, we headed to Grandma Sue and Grandpa Bruce's for dinner. It was a long day, but a great time to visit with the family. Great Grandma Willette got to spend some quality time with Madeline which is oh so important! Lots of hugs and snuggles this mothers day. We have to get them in while we can. Before we know it she will be a rebellious teen and loose all her cuddliness!

Day 6

So it has been a crazy few days. There is so much to learn about being a new parent. No matter how many child birth classes, books on baby's first days, breast feeding resources and advice from friends and family I don't think you are ever really prepared for the reality of bringing a child home for the first time.

Madeline is a doll. She changes so much every day. We never know what to expect. I don't want to jinx anything, but she slept for three solid hours last night. We only hope that this pattern continues. Who knew three hours of sleep and a soiled diaper would be such a HUGE deal in our household! How times change.

Daddy and Daughter

Momma and Sleeping Beauty. Notice how well she is sleeping in the middle of the day!

Tuesday night Leo and Madeline had their first "date." The doting grandma's acted as their chaperons. You never know with kids these days. Even at three weeks (Leo) and four days (Madeline) kids grow up fast!

Meet the new boss!

Madeline Opal was born at 9:49 Friday night. She was 6 lbs 14 oz and was 21 inches long. She's tall like her mom. It has been a long but wonderful few days in the hospital and now finally at home. Everyone told us that sleep would be scarce...I had no idea how right they were! Even sometimes when Maddy is asleep and we are both ready to pass out, we find ourselves getting lost in her and not sleeping while we can. She is so gorgeous that we can't take our eyes off of her.
Olive seems to be handling the change well so far. All she has really done is stare at Maddy with a look that says "what is this smelly thing screaming about?"

Excited?

So today, May 2nd, is our due date. As of right now, 4pm (central standard time) we are still waiting. Olive is starting to get excited. She wasn't so happy at first. This photo was taken the day we sat her down and told her she was going to have to share "her" new room with the baby. The shock was too much for her to take. She ate a snack and curled up for a three hour nap.

The room is set, the clothes are washed, the cradle swing is put together and the Cardinal's Mobile has been hung with care. I would say we are ready. So hurry up Baby G. We would really like to finally meet you. We promise not to dress you in headband bows if you are a girl or put you in tube socks up to your knees if you are a boy. (I can't promise not to put you in a sailor suit. That is just too darn cute. But we will refrain from putting you in a matching sailor hat. Unless you choose to wear it of course.)

You have a whole gaggle of family waiting for you out here. Watch out for those uncles though; they can get pretty rowdy.

Come out, come out whoever you are.
