Silence, sometimes

I posted every day for a week... now I've been gone for a week. Did you miss me?

I know you did.

For my big return I give you LydiaTV.

Lydia has been babbling a ton over the past two weeks. She is vocal just like her sister was. My favorite thing is when she gums or clucks silently. She did it at the beginning of the video and again near the end as she followed her sister out of the room with her eyes. (Man does Lydia love her sister... but that is another post.)

I also caught some super cute smiles today.

I mean really, could she be any cuter?

Iditarod

I am glued to the Iditarod this year. In the past I have found it marginally exciting. They call it the last great race and I'd say I'd have to agree.

But this year, I can't get enough. Why? Because I know one of the racers. One of my brother's best friends in high school is racing as a rookie with a young team of dogs. I am amazed.

I first met Dave when he joined my brother's basement band, The Hitchhikers, in the early nineties. He was a quiet guy, but with a killer sense of humor. I never would have placed him on a iditarod dogsled team. Totally wild.

Check him out. His mom and dad are in Alaska blogging about his progress. It's pretty exciting.

Not to mention, today is his 27th birthday.

Ham

What a ham Miss Madeline is.

Love it.

*Auntie Maine: This last photo reminds me so much of Adeline. What do you think? We miss you and can't wait for you to visit and cook puppies with us again.

A tight fit

Although we moved into this house almost a year ago I am still trying to get parts of it settled. I will probably being doing this for years.

I tackled the cookbook shelves in the kitchen.

Madeline helped.

Man, I love that girl.

Now the after:

Little Big Town

I love where we live.

As an example, here is a snippet of the Area Crime Report from our local newspaper.

  • Local police were informed by a resident in the 1000 block of R_____ Drive that an area family is taking over the minds of local dogs and turning them against their owners. Police have been advised the only way to protect pooches is to install an anti-force-field on their heads when going outside. A police investigation has revealed the best method would be to obtain an aluminum pie pan, cut slits in it for the dog's ears, place the pan over the doggie's head, fold it over and secure it with duct tape. Another safety tip from the local Boys in Blue...
  • Officers are on the edge looking for a possible merry prankster, following a Feb. 26 report from a resident in the 500 block of H_____ Court. The reident told police someone had taken carpet deoderizer from inside her home, and replaced it with a different brand. The culprits also took meat from her refridgerator and replaced it with meat that had an earlier sell-by date. an investigation continues.
  • Officers investigated a possible handgun in plain sight inside a vehicle parked in the 9500 block of M______ Road March 2. Investigation revealed the suspected gun was a chrome head to a vacuum cleaner.
I couldn't make this stuff up even if I tried.

The Little Prince

Madeline declared herself a prince last week. So we made her a crown. Madeline was adamant that she was a prince and not a princess, but couldn't really give me a reason why. I'm ok with that. Of course King Daddy needed a crown too.

And Princess Lydia.
I too was crowned queen of the household but as usual, I am a behind the camera kind of girl...

A photo-shoot

Sometimes it seems impossible to get a good photo with both girls.

I am constantly trying to get Lydia's attention or wrangle Madeline back into the frame. I am constantly making noise.

Where are you going?
Lydia, look at mommy!

Wait...don't move.
Don't knock your sister over.

Come back here!
Can you please sit in the chair next to your sister.

And this photo shoot was special. See that orange washcloth on Madeline's head? It is holding an icepack because she fell of the chair and hit her head on the window sill trying to get back into the chair. (Of course it was all my fault.)

Ok, I know your head hurts but I think Elmo is stuck in my camera. If you smile he might come out to say hi! No really. Look right here.

I may not get the perfect shot every time... or ever.

But I try.
Thank you!

{Can you see the bump on Madeline's head in that last one?}

Yum... 2 suckers...

Madeline is almost three years old. This means she is infuriating one moment and has us rolling on the floor the next. Tonight was no exception.

As you can see, she figured out how to cross her eyes and make "2 suckers" out of one. She did this all on her own and by the time I got a video of it she had realized she was funny and it wasn't quite as natural as it was the very first time she did it. (She threw in the two hands line for the camera...) No matter, we about died laughing.

Did you?
